One Proud Grandmother

My heart swells with gratitude to our Heavenly Father for the love & tender hearts of my grandson, Jacob, and his buddies from the neighborhood.  One of their friends, McKenzie Crawford, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  Duchenne effects boys, usually before the age of 5, and they usually don’t live beyond their 20’s.  McKenzie is 13.

One day he was at Jacob’s house playing in their family room which is upstairs.  When he got ready to go home, his legs collapsed and he fell down the stairs.  He burst his lip and fractured his arm.  He has been falling more lately.  After McKenzie got home and Jacob had settled down (needless to say this upset the whole family) he told his Mom he wanted to do something to help them find a cure for McKenzie’s illness.  He was ready to go right then and sit out in front of Wal-Mart and ask for donations.  Donna is a great organizer of events so they put their heads together and came up with a bike-a-thon.  It will take place in their neighborhood around McKenzie’s house on October 19th.  All of Jacob’s and McKenzie’s buddies loved the idea.  They’re all busy trying to make everyone aware.  I don’t know what all they have planned but I’m sure McKenzie will see how much he is loved.

Donna contacted CureDuchenne and they sent the boys hats & tee shirts to wear for the ride.  They have set up a website for McKenzie so people can donate to CureDuchenne.  The boys can look at it & see who has donated.  If you can donate, the link is http://support.cureduchenne.org/site/TR?pg=fund&fr_id=1040&pxfid=1750 .  This link will introduce you to McKenzie.  It is for a worthy cause.

I just want to say again how proud I am of these boys for showing that kids these days still show concern for someone other than themselves.  They want so much to bring awareness to this crippling & debilitating disease.

Here is a picture of (from left to right) Jacob, Ian, McKenzie & Truman.

Thank you for allowing me to tell you about this great group of kids.  If you can donate, you will be helping a worthy cause.  God Bless You!!!  Peggy

  1. What a wonderful post! What terrific guys and I'm so very proud of them too. I agree it's a pleasure (and a blessing) when we have young people who care so about others. Thanks for sharing -- we need to hear more stories like this!
