I'm Back Home

Thank you, Donna, for carrying on the blog while I've been away to see Nathaniel.  You rock, girl.  I looked at your posts.  Loved them, especially the Memorial Day one.  I am so thankful for our troops who protect our freedom at the risk of their own lives.  Love you, Donna.

I had a terrific time in New York City.  Nathaniel, my #2 grandson, is an aspiring actor (our starving artist) and lives there.  He was a wonderful tour guide.  We went to the Gramercy Tavern, one of NY fine dining restaurants, where Nathaniel works.  We were treated royally and had lots of wonderful food, definitely not Southern cooking but great.  We were there 3 hours eating.

Here are a few pictures.  I hope to get some crafting done in the next day or two.

This last picture shows the National Debt and every family's share at every moment of the day.  It changes constantly.  It's a little scary, isn't it?

Thank you for dropping by today.  Thank you to Donna again for carrying on without me.

Thank You Card - Damask Cartridge

Hi Everyone! - I hope you enjoyed your Memorial Day holiday!  Our town of Ringgold, GA was recently struck by a tornado.  It is the custom of our town to decorate the town square with American flags along with crosses bearing the names of soldiers that are from Ringgold, GA that have died in the line of duty.  Even though much of the town was destroyed, everyone still wanted to celebrate our American heroes.   The picture below was taken by my husband of town square with all the flags blowing in the wind.

The next picture shows the flags in front of one of the buildings that was destroyed during the tornadoes.  Times like these help remind me of how thankful I am to be an American and that I live in a community where complete strangers always help others in need.

I know this is a long post but I needed to make a thank you card for my boss.  I know I've said it before, but I have the best boss in the world.  Last Friday was the last day of 4th grade for my son, Jacob.  My boss knows that Jacob loves Krispy Kreme donuts, so on Friday, she came in with a box of donuts and a card for Jacob.  She said it was in celebration of his last day of school and for me to take it home to him.  I did and when Jacob opened the card (while he had a donut in his mouth), there were three movie tickets in the card.  Case in point, GREAT BOSS!!  I made this card for Jacob to write a thank you note to Jean.  I'm trying to teach him that you should show your appreciation when someone does something nice for you.

Using the Damask Cartridge, I cut this card at 3 1/2" Damask 14 from the cartridge.  This cartridge makes making a card so simple.  I adhered ribbon in the middle of the card, stamped "thank you" on a tag and tied it to the ribbon.  I then cut out the envelope at 3 1/2" and cut Layer 2 out and glued it to the outside of the envelope.  Then Jacob wrote a note to Jean on the inside of the card.

Thanks for stopping by and we hope you'll come back again tomorrow!  Mom'll be back this week - I think she'll have to  rest from her trip.  They've walked everywhere in NYC and she said her feet were sore.  Until another day, God Bless You!!  Donna

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY - A Child's Year

Hi Everyone - HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!

I made my boss a little Memorial Day present.  Just a little something to say thanks for being such a great boss!  I used the A Child's Year cartridge and:

  • Cut the card at 5" out of blue cardstock
  • Cut  the children at 3"
  • Adhered ribbon
  • For the inside, cut the boy on a rocket at 3"
I bought the planter last year after the 4th of July for a really good deal.  Thanks for stopping by and we hope you'll come back another day.  Until another day, God Bless You!  Donna

HELLO NEW YORK CITY!!

Hi Everyone!!  We just wanted to wish each and every one of you a Happy Memorial Day and a safe and fun weekend.  Also, we would like to thank all of our service men and women that have fought to protect our country and our freedom!

Mom and I have been very busy this week.  That's why we haven't posted any projects.  This was the last week of the 4th Grade for my son, Jacob.  There was something to do every day this past week at school for him.  He's so happy to be out of school for a while.  It's hard to believe that next year he'll be a 5th Grader.  Time sure does fly when you're having fun!!

Now for an update on Mama/Mamaw!  She is having fun with my brother and sister-in-law in the Big Apple (New York City).  They are there visiting my nephew, Nathaniel, for the weekend!   Here is a picture of her at a restaurant today - look at the size of that sandwich.  Mom and my sister-in-law halved this sandwich.  If I know my mom, I know she didn't eat even close to half of this sandwich.  I'm glad she's having fun!!

Well, I hope to find time tomorrow to make some cards.  I have several thank you cards that I need to make.  Thanks for stopping by and we hope you enjoy your weekend!  Until another day, God Bless You!!  Donna

SCHOOLHOUSE BOX - My World and Plantin

Hi Everyone!  Today is the next to the last day of school.  I made Ms. Pennington one last gift to finish off the year.  I can honestly say that I feel that under Mrs. Pennington's instruction Jacob is more prepared for the 5th Grade than he would have been under any one else.  She has prepared all of her students to work hard and made the jobs of the teachers that have her students in their class next year a lot easier.

I decided to design a box using the schoolhouse on the My World cartridge.  In Design Studio, I cut out two of  the schoolhouses and two shadows of the schoolhouse.  I then used the rectangle on Plantin (only because it was already in my Jukebox) to cut out the inside of the box.  I cut two of the rectangles measuring 5" x 12" and used my ScorPal to score each side at 1".  I folded up the sides and attached them with Tacky Tape to the front and back of the box.

I then welded two shadow schoolhouses together in Design Studio to form the card base.  I then cut a red schoolhouse out for the front of the card.  I cut a square of white cardstock for the inside of the card to write on.

I used Word to print off Mrs. Pennington's name for the front of the school.  All in all, I think it turned out really cute.

Thanks for visiting us today and we hope you'll come back tomorrow.  We enjoy your visits and your comments.  Until another day, God Bless You!!  Donna

Tiny Miracle - Heart Song Designs

Leah Cornelius of Heart Song Inspirations just released this image, actually it's two images I merged.  It's called Baby Bundle I think she may be thinking a lot about a baby.  She and her husband left Sunday for Ethiopia to meet their little boy they're going to adopt.  I understand it is a long process to adopt.  They won't get to bring him back with them yet.  More red tape.

Anyway I made this card thinking about her.  I hope I'll get to send it to her soon.  I put the airplanes on it to represent not only that little boys like planes but to represent the distance they have to go to get him.  God Bless You, Leah and your little family.

FLOWERS FOR THE TEACHER USING CRICUT SAMPLER

Hi Everyone!  Tuesday was "flower day" for Teacher Appreciation Week at Jacob's school.  We went to Home Depot and bought some petunias for Ms. Pennington.  We put the tub down in the ceramic flower pot then:

  • We cut out the "#1 Teacher Award" at 4 1/4" using the Cricut Sampler cartridge.
  • We cut the butterfly using the same cartridge at 4".
  • We then attached both the award and the butterfly to wooden skewers and pushed them down in the flower pot.
  • The label was cut using the Elegant Edges cartridge at 3".
I told Jacob he would have to carry it in school to Ms. Pennington.  He said - "Aw, Mom, can't I put it in my backpack?  Everyone will be looking at me."  I told him that he wouldn't be the only one carrying flowers tomorrow so he agreed to take it to her.  BOYS!!!!

Thanks for stopping by today and please let us know if you see something you like.  We enjoy hearing from our blogger friends!  Until another day, God Bless You!! Donna

THANK YOU FOR TEACHERS USING HELLO KITTY!!

Hi Everyone!!  Last week was Teacher's Appreciation Week.  In Jacob's school, that week was postponed until this week because of all the tornadoes that damaged much of the area here in Ringgold, GA.  Every day of this holds something special for the teachers.

For Monday, they asked that the students make a thank you card for their teacher.  We made these cards using the Hello Kitty cartridge's card feature cutting at 5". We used the swirl embossing folder on the leaves of the apples.

Jacob is going to give one card to his teacher, Ms. Pennington.  Ms. Pennington has taught Jacob so many things this year that he will not only use in the 5th grade but in many years to come.  He's also going to give a card to the school nurse who is extra sweet to Jacob, and the last card he's giving to Ms. Flores who is a Para-Pro at Jacob's school.  She assists teachers and then each afternoon she stands outside in all kinds of weather to make sure that all the car rider children get in the right car with the right person.

Thanks so much for stopping by and we hope you found some inspiration.  Come back tomorrow - God Bless You!!  Donna

Thinking of You Card Set - Elegant Edges

Hi Everyone - I work at a hospital in Chattanooga, TN.  At this hospital, there is a committee that raises money for the Foundation at the hospital.  The MAGIC committee has raised millions to give to the Foundation to be used by the hospital to improve services for our patients.  MAGIC stands for M-Memorial, A-Associates, G-Giving, I-In, C-Compassion.  The MAGIC committee had a silent auction this week and I was asked to create something that they could sell.

The card set and matching gift bag are what I created using the Elegant Edges cartridge on the Thinking of You labels.

Thanks for stopping by and we hope you'll come back again another day!!  Until another day, God Bless You!  Donna

Cards with Damask Decor

Hi Everyone!  I have to say I've had the Damask Decor cartridge for a few weeks now and until now haven't made anything with it!  Well, that's gonna change.  This is the BEST cartridge for making cards and envelopes.  I made these two cards tonight and they were so easy to make.  All you have to do is push a button and out comes your envelope or card!  I LOVE IT!!  I haven't put the sentiment on these yet because I don't know how I'll use them - I'll add that when I get ready to use them!

If you haven't purchased this cartridge yet, this is another one that you need to have!!  You won't regret it!  Okay now, go buy it!!

Thanks for visiting - we appreciate your comments!  Until another day, God Bless You!!  Donna

Card and Box from WRAP IT UP!!

HI Everyone!!  Did Mom tell you that we just had the BEST girl's weekend together?  We went to a Vera Bradley "A Colorful Day" event in Charlotte, NC, got our toes done, and laughed, laughed, and laughed!!  We didn't turn the TV on all weekend - amazing!!!!

Well, on to my post!  I don't know if you've purchased it or not, but the Wrap It Up cartridge is a must have!!

I made this fence shaped box to house my boss' favorite coffee.  I used the fit to page button on my Expression and the box was cut at 11".  This cartridge not only cuts boxes, it also cuts cards.  I cut the items for this card at 4" to match the box.  I had this sitting on my boss' desk this morning as a little welcome back gift from her trip to Switzerland.  She loved it.

So if you haven't gotten your Wrap It Up cartridge yet, you might want to seriously consider it.  Thanks for visiting with us and we hope you'll come visit again tomorrow!  Until another day, God Bless You!!  Donna

Mother/Daughter Weekend

Donna arrived, from Ringgold and the tornadoes, at my house Friday around 1:00PM to start our girl's weekend.  The first thing we did was to go have a pedicure.  If you've never had a pedicure with Donna you have missed an adventure.  We sat in massaging chairs where the rollers go up and down your back and shake your whole body.  I have lost quite a bit of weight since the death of my husband so I thought I was going to be ejected to the other side of the room.  Donna is very ticklish on her feet so it was all she could do to stay in her seat without laughing.  Needless to say I think we kept the attendants entertained.  Here are the results.
Yesterday we went to Charlotte, NC to a Vera Bradley "A Colorful Day" event.  At this event we met the founders of the Vera Bradley line of purses, accessories and luggage.  They told the story of how they got started, which was very interesting.  It was like being on the Oprah Winfrey "My Favorite Things" show.  We got all kind of free products throught out the day.  We had so much fun.  Here are a couple of pictures.

I'm so thankful we got to have this little outing since her birthday was spent huddled in the floor of her bathroom praying the tornadoes would pass over them.  The pictures of the devastation are awful.  I am eternally grateful to God for protecting them.  God bless you all!!!  We love our followers.  Peggy
